Apparent disadvantages of being left-handed
Among the possible problems or disadvantages of left-handed children are several problems, documented by the University of Minnesota in small groups, in phonology and reading learning topics.
In groups of children who are learning to read, a lower reading speed and more problems with the rapid identification of left-handed words were identified. It was also seen that many of them can read at good speed and with good understanding in silence, but that this speed is lost when they have to read aloud.
One of the problems also measured by the University of Minnesota was that left-handed children are slower in learning to write, apparently because their left hand covers the text they have already written, unlike the right-handed, who can always observe the letters already written.
